Siouxsie Sioux, parte del conocido como Contingente de Bromley que escandaliz\u00f3 a todo el pa\u00eds cuando apareci\u00f3 acompa\u00f1ando a los Sex Pistols en el Today de Bill Grundy, dio con una primera formaci\u00f3n de los Banshees para registrar su primer single, Hong Kong Garden, m\u00e1s o menos cuando Joy Division, desde Manchester, se dieron a conocer con Shadowplay a trav\u00e9s del programa de televisi\u00f3n de Tony Wilson con un Ian Curtis contone\u00e1ndose como un poseso y The Cure lanzaron Killing an Arab, con ecos del existencialismo de El extranjero de Camus. Un a\u00f1o despu\u00e9s, en Northampton, los Bauhaus de Peter Murphy rindieron homenaje al mito del cine de terror con Bela Lugosi s Dead, que pareci\u00f3 volver a la vida con la espeluznante guitarra de Daniel Ash, y desde Leeds, The Sisters of Mercy, liderados por el clarividente Andrew Eldritch, lanzaron en su propio sello The Damage Done, el embri\u00f3n de los hits crepusculares que no tardar\u00edan en llegar.
